Judicial cooperation in civil cases in Polish-Ukrainian relations: the EU Project Pravo-Justice became a co-organizer of the conference
On February 23, the EU Project Pravo-Justice together with the Leon Kozminski Academy in Warsaw held the conference "Judicial cooperation in civil cases in Polish-Ukrainian relations".
After the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation into Ukraine, the issue of legal relations between individuals and legal entities from Poland and Ukraine in commercial and civil matters became particularly relevant. After all, a large number of Ukrainians received temporary asylum in Poland.
Since such cases are already actively considered by courts and studied by practicing lawyers, the conference started a discussion in the field of international civil procedure and international private law in relations between Poland and Ukraine.
Dr. Bartłomiej Nowak, dean of the Kozminski University College of Law, opening the event, emphasized that this conference will be the first of the cycle and expressed hope that the following events will, among other things, be held live in Ukraine.
Anna Adamska-Gallant, Key international expert on judicial reform of the EU Project Pravo-Justice, noted the importance and relevance of the conference topic.
"Now millions of Ukrainians are on the territory of Poland, so lawyers must be ready to provide the necessary assistance and develop Polish-Ukrainian cooperation in matters of civil and commercial law. Therefore, the Project plans to support a series of events dedicated to the issues of international civil process and international private law in the relations between Poland and Ukraine," said Anna Adamska-Gallant.
Dr. Maciej Zachariasiewicz, professor at Kozminski University, added that judicial cooperation in civil cases is an important part of the European project and the predictability of functional jurisdictions is at the heart of this cooperation.
"That is why in the conference program we offered many speeches dedicated to a more detailed consideration of the relevant issues with an emphasis on Polish-Ukrainian cooperation, and also expanded this perspective in view of the issue of Ukraine's accession to the EU," noted Maciej Zachariasiewicz.
During the conference, the participants of the event, representatives of Ukraine and Poland, considered topics related to inheritance and property relations, contractual relations, the application of legal assistance agreements in Ukrainian and Polish judicial practice.
